What Kenya's agriculture produced, what it consumed to produce it, and what was left over, for the nine years to 2024, measured twice: in the prices of each year and in the prices of 2016. 54 observations, three items in two price bases over nine years.

Agricultural value added grew 128.6 per cent in shillings between 2016 and 2024, from 1,396,276.5 million to 3,191,978.9, and 22.2 per cent in volume, to 1,705,956.0 million at 2016 prices. The cash figure grew 2.29 times and the volume figure 1.22, so the implied price level for what Kenya's farms produce roughly doubled over the nine years and did most of the growth.

In volume terms the farm economy contracted in 2021 and again in 2022, down 0.3 per cent and then 2.3, the only two consecutive years of decline in the series, before recovering 7.1 per cent in 2023.

Farms are also using more to make less. At constant prices, intermediate consumption grew 51.7 per cent over the nine years while output grew 27.7, so the share of output consumed as inputs rose from 18.6 per cent to 22.1. At current prices that share barely moved, from 18.6 to 19.3, which is what makes the constant-price series worth publishing alongside it: the two disagree about whether anything changed, and only the deflated one is answering the question.

This table excludes forestry and fishing, which the wider national accounts include in agriculture.

The base year is 2016. Table 7.2, the marketed-production account in the same chapter, is priced in 2018. Comparing the two constant-price series directly compares different deflators, so the base travels in the price_basis column of both.
