Kenya's formal wage employment, cut by what the employer does, from Table 3.4 of the Statistical Abstract. 183 economic activities grouped into 21 sections, each section's printed total, and the national grand total, over five years.

Education is the largest section by a wide margin: 704,652 people in 2024, 21.9 per cent of every wage job in Kenya, and almost all of it is one activity. Educational support activities alone employs 685,318, which is 21.3 per cent of national wage employment and more than manufacturing and construction together.

Accommodation and food service activities is the section that changed: 51,547 people in 2020 and 104,719 in 2024, a doubling, driven by short term accommodation going from 39,031 to 78,737. It is the tourism recovery, visible as a labour series. Only one section is smaller than it was in 2020, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 72 people; 10 of the 182 activities that carry figures shrank.

Manufacture of refined petroleum products is printed as zero in all five years, which is a real figure rather than a gap: Kenya has refined no crude since 2013. One activity, Activities not adequately defined, is printed with no figure at all in any year and is published as null, because its section's total excludes it.

This dataset and ke.knbs.wage-employment-by-sector.annual cut the same national figure two ways, four tables apart, and agree in all five years to within one employee.
