How much of each refined petroleum product Kenya sold, for the ten years to 2024. 80 observations across eight products: Liquified Petroleum Gas, Motor spirit, Aviation Spirit, Jet/turbo fuel, Illuminating kerosene, Light diesel fuel, Heavy diesel fuel and Fuel oil, all in thousand tonnes.

KNBS prints no total, subtotal or aggregate of any kind on this table, unlike every other table in the Statistical Abstract's chapter 9. Any total computed over these eight products is the reader's own arithmetic rather than a figure printed beside them.

It is not unverifiable, though. KNBS publishes the same national aggregate in a different publication: Table 9.3 of the Economic Survey's chapter 9, which splits the identical fuel by the consumer who bought it rather than by product, and which does print a total. That is ke.knbs.fuel-sales-by-category.annual. The eight products here sum to the total printed there exactly in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, and to within 0.1 thousand tonnes in 2024. Six of these ten years therefore do have a published sum to check against, and they agree. The remaining four, 2015 through 2018, predate the oldest Economic Survey edition still on the portal and have none.

Illuminating kerosene fell 90.6 per cent, from 390.1 in 2015 to 36.7 in 2024, while Liquified Petroleum Gas rose 179.2 per cent, from 148.6 to 414.9, 2.79 times its 2015 level: Kenyan households changed what they cook with. Kerosene's decline is not a straight line across the decade: it rises to a 2017 peak of 448.0, above its own 2015 level, then falls every single year from 2017 to 2024.

Light diesel fuel and Motor spirit dominate by volume: 2,208.4 and 1,492.6 thousand tonnes in 2024, well ahead of Jet/turbo fuel's 735.5 in third place. Heavy diesel fuel is a rounding error by comparison, 0.0 in 2024.

Products are named exactly as KNBS prints them, spellings and capitalisation included: "Liquified Petroleum Gas" rather than "Liquefied", "Motor spirit" in sentence case beside "Aviation Spirit" in title case. A product name is a key here and is preserved rather than corrected to a house style.
